Graduate students receive fellowships!
Our lock-down continues, but that doesn't stop student achievements from being recognized. First, Gabe Runte received a fellowship from the Garden Club of America for his project, "The influence of plant-fungal symbioses on the establishment potential of Pseudotsuga macrocarpa in California fire scars." The Fellowship in Ecological Restoration will allow Gabe to explore the effects of endophytic and mycorrhizal fungal communities on plant drought tolerance. Our newest PhD recruit, Mari Irving, received a UCSB Regents in Discipline Fellowship, a high honor from the EEMB department for Mari's scholastic merit. We are looking forward to having her in Fall 2020! And last, but not least, Austen Apigo has received an Olivia Long Converse Fellowship for his project, "How do Mexican floristic regions contribute to latitudinal endophyte diversity patterns?" Congratulations to all the young scholars!
